Aerospace & Automotive Mobility
Automated Vehicles | VTOLs | Drones
Wednesday, 3 September 2025 | 10:00 – 18:00 | Stage 2
Our world is rapidly changing as mobility technology becomes increasingly capable of autonomous operations. Driverless cars are in widespread use in some cities in the United States. Vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) drones are expanding to include cargo and human traffic. Ships and trains are also exploring the possibilities of autonomous travel.
Keynote Speech

Session 1: The Vision for Mobility Innovation
10:30 – 12:00
As societies grow and urbanise, we confront common problems in terms of mobility. These include traffic congestion, pollution and space constraints. At the same time, the classic commuter model shows that mobility assets remain relatively under-utilized. In addition, the European Union has committed to a ban on sales of internal combustion vehicles in 2035, and to full net zero for carbon emissions by 2050. This session will examine the business case for mobility investments, focussing on city planning, regulation, sustainability and power generation.

Session 2: The Autonomous Ground Revolution
12:30 – 14:00
When will driverless cars finally become widespread? What are the main barriers for adaptation? How capable has driverless car technology become? What are the safety fears of driverless cars compared to standard vehicles?

Session 3: The Autonomous Air Revolution
14:30 – 16:00
Mobility in the vertical dimension is rapidly taking off. Amazon.com has experimented with delivery drones. VTOL investments promise to revolutionize short-haul and medium-haul transport for cargo and passengers. Will driverless / pilotless cargo and passenger transport in the air finally become a reality? What are the threats and opportunities this presents?
