Introduction to Cyprus as an Investment Jurisdiction
As a Member State of the European Union, Cyprus has made rapid progress in developing its technology and innovation ecosystems since 2010. Today, Cyprus is developing a real tech ecosystem, supported by a competitive tax policy, the attraction on foreign investors, headquarters and digital nomads to Cyprus, as well as compliance with EU and OECD requirements.
Profile
Ambassador Stavros Avgoustides assumed duties as Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in Athens on 2 October 2023. He was born in Nicosia in 1972 and is the son of Lieutenant General (retd) Loukis Avgoustides.
He was appointed to the Diplomatic Service of the Republic of Cyprus in 1998 and has since served in Diplomatic Missions, as well as in the Central Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representing his country at bilateral and multilateral levels.
During his diplomatic career abroad, he served as Ambassador to Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (2023-2019), Ambassador to Sofia (2018-2014), Consul General in Toronto (2011-2009), Chargé d'affaires a.i. in Sofia (2009-2006), Consul in Athens (2006-2002) and as Counsellor of the Embassy in Damascus (2002-1999).
At the Central Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he served in the Directorates of Protocol, European Union, Schengen - Consular Affairs, Crisis Management and PSEA (Directorate of the Consular Affairs Department) and in the Directorate of the Middle East, Gulf and Africa (Directorate of the Middle East Department).
During the first Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU (2012) he served as Chairman of the Working Party "Consular Affairs" (COCON).
In July 2018, the President of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev, awarded him the Order of the Madara Horseman - First Class of the Republic of Bulgaria, for his contribution to the development of political, economic and cultural relations between Cyprus and Bulgaria, as well as for his multidimensional charitable work in the country of his accreditation.
In September 2018, the Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, awarded him the "Shield of the City of Sofia", for his contribution to the strengthening of bilateral cultural relations, his contribution to the cultural events of the Bulgarian capital and more generally for the promotion of culture and creativity.
Stavros Avgoustides is a graduate of the University of Reading (Henley Business School) with a Master of Business Administration (MBA), the University of Kent (London Center of International Relations) with a Master of International Relations and European Studies, and Arizona State University, with a BA in Political Science and Economics.
