Arrival at Athens International Airport (AIA)
Athens International Airport (ATH) is Greece’s largest and busiest airport, serving as the main entry point for international visitors. Most international carriers and low cost airlines fly into AIA. Unlike other cities, there is only one airport serving Athens.
Please note that our travel provider, Mid East Travel, has a meet & greet desk at the airport if you need support or assistance upon arrival or departure.
All arrival and departure gates and terminals are accessed through the Main Building

Immigration & Customs
Schengen Zone Travelers: If arriving from a Schengen country, you can proceed directly to baggage claim.
Non-Schengen Travelers: Passport control is required before entering Greece.

Baggage claim is on the arrivals level.
Green Lane: If you have nothing to declare.
Red Lane: If carrying items subject to customs duties (e.g., large amounts of cash, commercial goods).
Airport Services & Facilities
Free Wi-Fi: Available throughout the airport.
Currency Exchange & ATMs: Located in the arrivals hall.
SIM Cards: Vodafone, Cosmote, and Wind stores available for prepaid SIMs.
Luggage Storage: Available at the arrivals level.
Food & Shopping: Cafés, duty-free shops, and convenience stores available.
Car Rental at the Airport
Unless you plan to travel within Greece before or after your stay, it is recommended to rent a car from within Athens rather than at the Airport. AIA has several car rental counters, but these are often crowded during the summer months, and prices are not as competitive as they could. Moreover, parking in Athens is expensive, so if you are planning to rent a car, please take this into account.
When purchasing car insurance: Please note that certain car rental agencies will pre-charge a sizable reserve payment on a debit card. If you are paying for insurance with a debit card, please check the policies of your car rental agency in advance.
Tips for a Smooth Arrival
Passport & Visa: Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months (if required by your country).
Airport Security: Keep valuables and important documents in hand luggage.
