The online gaming industry is at the forefront of deeptech adaptation, and the technologies used in e-gaming are being promoted by many as offering solutions across a range of other industries, notably education, tourism and retail. The gaming sector’s reliance on advanced computational techniques, transformative technologies, and interdisciplinary innovation, including AI, edge computing, cloud services, and more, has transformed the sector and the habits of hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

Session 1: The Business of Gaming: Trends and Forecasts

10:30 – 12:00             

This session will provide an overview of the gaming industry in terms of users, engagement, revenues as well as a summary of investment trends in the sector. It will review the market shares of gaming devices and individual games, and provide case studies of successful game launches at different revenue and scale levels. The success of different platforms, and the impact this has on gaming preferences and player commitments will be reviewed.

Session 2: Emerging Technologies and Financial Issues in Gaming 

12:30 – 14:00             

This session will examine the latest applications in gaming from the viewpoint of technology and finance. On the finance side it will examine the impact of cryptocurrencies and related DEFI innovations (coin offerings, NFTs, etc) as well as on-board financial tools such as in-game transactions / microtransactions, loot boxes, play-to-win competitions, and more. It will also examine revenue sharing and platform issues, including the alignment of incentives between developers, online stores and equipment manufacturers. In terms of technology, we will examine the impact of virtual reality / augmented reality and hear from gamers and game designers on the quality of the latest VR goggles.

Session 3: Regulation & Governance in Gaming

14:30 – 16:00

The third session will focus on recent developments in terms of gaming regulation and governance. It will include the impact of the EU GDPR and the Digital Services Act/s on gaming, as well as privacy concerns. Issues such as content censorship, age restrictions, and time restrictions on gaming will be discussed. There will be at least one presentation on ethical standards, fair play, contracts, and other governance issues. There will be one presentation on cybersecurity, cheating and hacking in online gaming.

Session 4: Investing in Gaming

16:30 – 18:00            

The final session will focus on investors and game developers, outlining their plans, experience, best practise and other information from the investment, development and financial viewpoint. We will hear from at least four speakers in the sector.
