Smart Buildings - Smart Infrastructure

Building Automation | Proptech Investment | Infrastructure Thursday, 4 September 2025 | 10:00 – 18:30 | Stage 3
Moderator: Nikos Anastasiou

Advances in smart building technology as well as smart electricity grids and other utilities promise a revolution in how physical infrastructure—from highways to electricity grids to homes and offices—function in the future. As of 2025, however, the progress towards implementing this technology remains limited. There is a vast stock of Grade B and C housing and office space in Europe and North America where basic energy efficiency and building automation remains non-existent. While investments in Grade A property are taking place, less than half contain even basic intelligent building sensoring and less than 10% can be considered as having integrated systems in place.

This track examines the rapid progress in property, building technology and infrastructure systems and the concept of the smart home, smart office and smart utility grid. It illustrates the changes taking place in terms of proptech, digital transformation, automation, Internet of Things, energy efficiency, energy storage and related technologies. It concludes by a review of investor activity in the sector.

Keynote Speech

10:00 – 10:30

Session 1: Green Smart Buildings

10:30 – 12:00

While Europe has taken the lead in the transition to Net Zero by 2050, the mission of adapting European office space and housing to this objective remains limited. This session will review state of the art in terms of intelligent buildings and smart automation, as well as the greening of buildings and homes. It will examine the potential costs and benefits in terms of capital expenditure and operating expenditure of smart automation and provide information on the ROI cases for this technology moving forward.
