Transport in Athens

Athens offers a variety of transportation options that are easy to use, efficient, and affordable. Here are the key ways to navigate through the city:

 

Metro

The Athens Metro is one of the most convenient and efficient ways to get around the city. It connects the city center to important areas like Syntagma, Monastiraki, Plaka, and Piraeus. The Metro system is modern, safe, and reliable.

Key Features:

  • Lines: 3 lines (Blue, Red, and Green) cover major areas.

  • Major Stops: Syntagma, Monastiraki, Acropolis, Omonia, and Piraeus Port.

  • Operating Hours: 05:30 AM - 00:30 AM daily (times may vary on weekends).

  • Tickets: €1.20 for a one-way ticket (valid for 90 minutes), or multi-day passes are available.

 

Tram

The Athens Tram runs along the coastline and connects the city center with beaches and the Piraeus Port. It’s a scenic, comfortable way to explore the seaside areas.

Key Features:

  • Operating Hours: 05:30 AM - 00:30 AM.

  • Ticket: Same as Metro (€1.20 for a one-way).

  • Popular Stops: Syntagma, Plaka, Glyfada, Voula, and Piraeus.

 

Bus & Trolleybus

Athens also has a comprehensive network of buses and trolleybuses that serve both the city and the surrounding areas. These are ideal for reaching areas not covered by the Metro or Tram.
